The Food Safety and Animal Health Office is a department in the Department of Economics and Social Affairs. In the cantons of Graubünden and Glarus, it ensures protection against animal diseases, enforcement of animal welfare and control of primary animal production. In order to protect against unsafe and misleading food and consumer goods, it also monitors the production and distribution chains of the affected establishments.

We are looking for 1. July 2027 or by arrangement a head for the Office for Food Safety and Animal Health (with simultaneous function as cantonal veterinarian / cantonal veterinarian).

Tasks

• Management of the department with around 80 employees
• Organizational, human and financial responsibility for the service
• Ensure efficient enforcement of the laws under the responsibility of the departments in the cantons of Graubünden and Glarus
• Need-based internal and external communication
• Exercise of the function of Cantonal Veterinarian of the Cantons of Graubünden and Glarus
• Responsibility for the implementation of legislation on animal diseases and animal welfare as well as legislation on medicinal products and foodstuffs in the area of primary animal production and slaughter in Graubünden and Glarus
• Participation in various national and cantonal bodies

Requirements

• Strong leadership skills and several years of professional experience in a similar position
• Federal diploma as an official veterinarian or Veterinarian
• Familiarity with economic, rural and political conditions in Graubünden
• Innovative, entrepreneurial, service- and solution-oriented thinking and action
• Decision-making and enforcement
• High social competence as well as flexibility, resilience and discretion
• Strong communication skills and stylish expressiveness in German
• Good knowledge of several cantonal languages is advantageous
