Confederation President Guy Parmelin attended the key handover ceremony of the new Agroscope laboratories in Posieux, together with delegations from the Fribourg State Council and Agroscope directorates as well as from the Federal Offices of Agriculture UFAG and of Construction and Logistics UFCL. With this step, the central element of Agroscope's location strategy came into operation.

The delivery marks the conclusion of a strategic project carried out in close collaboration between the Canton of Freiburg, the UFCL and Agroscope. The Canton built the building on land owned by the Confederation. It will initially be leased to the Confederation, which will then take possession of it upon expiry of the surface contract.

Agroscope: Keys to the New Laboratories in Posieux

The key handover represents a key milestone in the implementation of Agroscope's location strategy. The concentration of a large part of laboratory activities and research technologies in Posieux allows Agroscope to reduce the costs of managing and maintaining laboratory infrastructures. Once all the removals from the various offices in Posieux have been completed, both in the laboratories and in the administrative building (the latter still to be renovated), the campus will host about 420 Agroscope collaborators.

The choice of Posieux as the main location for Agroscope's activities was influenced by its proximity to major Swiss universities, such as the University of Bern and the University of Freiburg. This will strengthen links with academic research and enhance collaboration between institutions. In addition, Posieux has a good transport infrastructure, with the presence of a train station and a state road connecting the city to Bern and Freiburg.

The concentration of laboratory activities in Posieux will allow Agroscope to reduce the costs of managing and maintaining laboratory infrastructures. According to estimates, the cost reduction could be around CHF 1.2 million per year. This savings can be invested in research and development of new technologies to improve production
