The challenge takes place in several locations, including central Switzerland and the Ticino Alps. These strategic places for air traffic have become hiking destinations thanks to the initiative of Skyguide. The aim is to promote the discovery of these places and to encourage hiking enthusiasts to visit them.

Monte Lema is one of the main destinations of the challenge. Located in the canton of Ticino, it is an important reference point for pilots and aviators. The Piz Corvach, located in the canton of Graubünden, is another important reference point for pilots. Operational details

The itineraries touch on the Piz Corvatsch, the vor of Willisau, the Lägern and Mount Lema, all key locations for air traffic in Switzerland. For each site there are three routes of different levels, downloadable in GPX format and reachable by public transport. On the spot, a QR code reveals curiosities about the system and its function.

Among the trails, one takes hikers to the Piz Corvatsch, an important checkpoint for birds. Another leads to Willisau's vor, an orientation system for aircraft that helps avoid collisions. The Lägern, an important checkpoint for low-flying flights, is also a hiking destination. Finally, Mount Lema, a checkpoint for low-flying flights, offers a panoramic view of the region.

These routes were developed in collaboration with the Swiss Civil Aviation and were made available from 1 January 2022. Hikers can download routes in GPX format and follow them using public transport. On site, a QR code provides additional information about the system and its function.

Switzerland invested around 500,000 Swiss francs in the project, which was funded by the Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation. The project was carried out in collaboration with the Swiss Civil Aviation and with the help of industry experts.

Those who photograph at one of the sites and submit the image enter a prize draw, including exclusive visits to the control towers in Zurich and Geneva. The initiative lasts until the end of October, so as to cover both summer and autumn colours.

Switzerland is famous for its control towers, which act as reference points for pilots and from which you can admire incredible views of the surrounding countryside. Now, thanks to this initiative, tourists can also enjoy these same views.

Among the sites affected are the Zurich control tower, which is located at an altitude of 460 meters, and the Geneva control tower, which is located at an altitude of 440 meters. Both towers offer a unique panoramic view of the city and the surrounding countryside.

The initiative was initiated by the Federal Council, which established specific legislation to regulate the matter. The regulation, published on 15 July 2022, states that the affected sites will be open to the public until the end of October, and that visitors will be able to access the control towers with an entry ticket of 10 francs.
