# Assistant with Master in Geomorphology and natural hazards

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Italian Switzerland (SUPSI) is offering a position of at the

Institute of Earth Sciences

of the Environment, Construction and Design Department based in Mendrisio. 100% occupancy rate. Entry into service 1 September 2026 or date to be agreed.

Responsibilities and activities

The candidate will have the opportunity to take part in the research, mandate and service activities of the Climate Change and Territory Competence Center (CCCT), a reference point at the southern Alpine level in the field of applied geomorphology, where he will have the opportunity to develop and perfect the following skills:

  • Cartography, monitoring and modeling of slope movements in an Alpine environment
  • Evaluation of natural hazards and risks of geomorphological origin
  • Remote sensing monitoring, in particular through the autonomous acquisition of images from a drone and the processing and analysis of aerial and satellite images (especially satellite radar interferometry)

Requirements

We are looking for a person with a solid academic background, motivated to work in an applied research and development context. The following are required:

  • Master's degree in geosciences or related fields
  • Knowledge in applied geomorphology/geology, with particular emphasis on the Alpine environment
  • Experience in field monitoring and remote sensing data acquisition
  • Knowledge and experience with Territorial Information Systems (GIS)
  • Experience with the main remote sensing data processing software (aerial and satellite)
  • Ability to move in rough and high mountain terrain
  • Attitude to teamwork, with a strong orientation towards collaboration
  • Availability and interest in research activity
  • Mastery of the Italian language, a second national language and English
