The Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs (LSVW) has the task of protecting consumers by means of inspections and analyses against food and consumer objects which are hazardous to health and against deception in connection with food, and of ensuring the welfare and health of animals, both for themselves and for the benefit of humans.

Their tasks

• As a deputy cantonal chemist and member of the LSVW management, you support the cantonal chemist in defining and implementing the Office’s strategy in the area of food and consumer goods control and represent him in his absence.
• As Head of Section Fin, you will lead the chemistry and biology laboratories and ensure the quality and conformity of services and analysis reports.
• They monitor the implementation of the LSVW quality management system and follow the indicators and objectives of the laboratories.

Desired profile

• Master’s or doctoral degree from a university, ETH or FH in chemistry, biochemistry, food or natural sciences, supplemented by a Swiss Federal Diploma for the leading official food control (or willing to obtain it) in the sense of the applicable Federal Ordinance (SR 817.042).
• Professional experience in an accredited examination laboratory (management and development), several years of recognised training and/or experience in management, ideally with experience in carrying out changes.
• High interest in the public service, good knowledge of its functioning and of the cantonal and federal structures.
• Adaptness in communication, planning and organization as well as in dealing with computer systems (especially LIMS).
• resilience, enforcement and crisis management capability.
• Careful, accurate and organized.
• Master the German or French language with very good knowledge of the other language.
