Applications must be accompanied by a cover letter, a brief curriculum vitae, extracts from the criminal record and from the Office of recent prosecutions (dated less than one year) as well as a statement of support or recommendation from a workers' organization (art. 55 LJ).

The assessors are non-professional judges who have decision-making competence in judicial matters (art. 4 LJ). An assessor shall be summoned according to the needs of the authority concerned. He/she shall receive meeting allowances in accordance with s. 79a RJ . The assessors shall be elected by the Grand Council, on notice of the Judicial Council, which shall contest the Grand Council with judicial functions (Art. 12 LJ). The assessors of labour courts are chosen jointly within employers' organisations and within workers' organisations (art. 55 LJ).
