Professional conversion as locomotive pilot Travellers 100% - - - - - - Move Switzerland with us. Professional conversion as locomotive pilot Travellers Biel/Bienne, 01.01.2027, 100% Apply here

What awaits you.

As a locomotive pilot, you do great things: by working at SBB Voyageurs, you carry about 482 million travellers each year. Once the second 15-month training is completed, you travel through the most beautiful railway lines in Switzerland. You bring our travellers to destination with punctuality, contributing to a positive travel experience with the SBB. Your daily work also offers you many opportunities for evolution as well as attractive conditions for all life situations. At home, night and weekend work is entitled to additional remuneration (e.g. 16 francs per hour for Sunday work). Time increases of between 10 and 30% are also granted for night work. This means you have more free time than the staff who do not work at night or on weekends. At the end of the training, the place of engagement will concern either the Delémont or Neuchâtel depot or La Chaux-de-Fonds. What you can move.

  • As a locomotive pilot, you not only take the lead in the train, but also take responsibility for safety and punctuality on a busy rail network.
  • During the journey, great attention must be paid to react quickly and correctly to signals, speed instructions and unpredictable events.
  • You are self-employed while maintaining contact at all times with operating centres and management positions.
  • In addition to driving and manoeuvring trains, your tasks also include checking the technical condition before and after taking over the vehicle.

  • You have completed a three-year apprenticeship or matured. Your motivation matters more to us than the branch you come from.
  • You approach challenges calmly, you make thoughtful decisions even in stressful situations and you like to work by team.
  • You can communicate in French (level C2) and already have knowledge in a second national language, German (level A1).
  • Your colour vision is perfect (no prot anomaly or deutera) and no entry is included in your criminal record or prosecution registry.
  • During the intensive and demanding training period, you must demonstrate a high level of personal responsibility and motivation, as well as your investment in different learning environments, from face-to-face to digital self-learning.

The original listing does not state a salary. Our estimate for this role and sector in Biel/Bienne is CHF 73'000 - 124'500 gross per year — an estimate, not a figure communicated by FFS Officine (Ferrovie Federali). Is this a full-time role, and what type of contract does FFS Officine (Ferrovie Federali) offer?

This listing is a full-time position. The contract type shown here comes directly from the employer's original posting; always confirm exact hours, notice period and probation length with FFS Officine (Ferrovie Federali) during the application process, since these details can vary by role even within the same contract category.

Do I need a cross-border work permit for a role in Bern?

EU/EFTA citizens living in an EU/EFTA state can apply for a G permit and can work anywhere in Switzerland: border zones no longer apply to them, and they must return home at least once a week. The Swiss employer files the request with Canton Bern's migration office after the contract is signed. Processing times vary by canton, so confirm the specifics with Bern's cantonal migration office or with HR during the application.
