Role overview

Tasks

  • Design and implement backup concept for all important servers, storage, workstations, measurement data and software.
  • Edit and solve tickets including documentation and updating relevant knowledge.

First level and second level support in all IT areas.

Support for support requests for Linux, Mac and Windows.

  • Support and monitoring of servers at the Institute (Linux and Windows) and a storage system.
  • Maintenance and expansion of the virtual environment (ESXi)
  • Evaluation, procurement, installation and maintenance of software and hardware.
  • Installation and maintenance of systems in the observatorium, peripherals and communication devices as well as their software and interfaces.

The work at the institute is very diverse and an openness for new systems and applications is indispensable.

Through a good cooperation with the computer science services of the University of Bern you get to know new solutions and have a wide range of work areas.

You spend about 1-2 days at the observatorium in Zimmerwald and about 3-4 days at the Astronomical Institute near the Bern railway station.
