Saturday’s programme
On Saturday 10 October the MA*GA Museum in Gallarate organises a programme dedicated to contemporary art on the occasion of the XXII Contemporary Day AMACI. The initiative proposes to encounter art through exhibitions, books, video and performance and coincides with the finissage of three exhibitions currently on display at the museum.
The exhibitions concerned are ‘Qui e altrove. The environments of Paolo Scheggi 1964–1971’, ‘Le strade terminano prima di cominciare. Vincenzo Agnetti and the photographic traces’ and ‘ARTE VIVA. Performative and participatory processes as practice – XXVIII Gallarate Prize’. Their titles recall the three nuclei indicated by the day: the environments of Paolo Scheggi, the photographic traces of Vincenzo Agnetti and the performative and participatory processes of the Gallarate Prize.
The programme therefore pairs the closing of the exhibitions with a calendar devoted to publishing, research and performative practices. A video screening, institutional greetings, the presentation of the series ‘i Quaderni – Italia 2050 Research Centre of the MA*GA Museum’, a performance and the presentation of a catalogue are scheduled. The full timetable is indicated in the day’s programme.
Access to the MA*GA Museum will be free all day. It will also be possible to attend the scheduled appointments, together with visiting the exhibitions and the moments dedicated to books, documentation and performance.
For the museum, the initiative offers the opportunity to get closer to some of the artistic research present in the exhibitions and to deepen the relationship between contemporary art, documentation, publishing and performative practices. The finissage thus brings together the three exhibitions and the activities organised for the XXII Contemporary Day.
Operational details
Books, documentation and research
The publishing component revolves around the series «i Quaderni – Italia 2050 Research Center of the MA*GA Museum», published by Nomos Edizioni. At the heart of the event are two volumes linked to the exhibitions coming to a close and to the themes addressed by the museum during the day.
The first is «The roads end before they begin. Vincenzo Agnetti and photographic traces». The presentation involves Alessandro Castiglioni, Germana Agnetti and Achille Filipponi. The volume takes up the title of the exhibition dedicated to Vincenzo Agnetti and photographic traces, bringing one of the paths proposed by the museum into the publishing program.
The second volume is «Here and elsewhere. Paolo Scheggi’s environments 1964–1971», presented with Emma Zanella, Ilaria Bignotti and Cosima Scheggi. In this case too, the title of the book corresponds to that of the exhibition dedicated to Paolo Scheggi’s environments. The two publishing events are therefore directly linked to the exhibitions that conclude their run at the MA*GA.
The day places video, performance and the catalogue dedicated to «ARTE VIVA. Performative and participatory processes as practice. XXVIII Gallarate Prize» alongside the books. The relationship between contemporary art and documentation thus moves from the research displayed in the galleries to the publications presented during the initiative.
The museum describes the event as an opportunity to learn more about the artistic research explored by the exhibitions. The presence of the series, the two volumes and the catalogue broadens the closing event beyond the visit alone, keeping publishing, research and performative practices at the center, the areas identified for the XXII AMACI Contemporary Day.
Key points
The events, hour by hour
The sequence of events will begin at 16 with the screening of the video «Vincenzo Agnetti, Elisabetta d’Inghilterra. Lecture-performance 37a Biennale di Venezia, 1976». The first part of the program will therefore be devoted to video content related to research on Vincenzo Agnetti.
At 16.20, institutional greetings are scheduled. Ten minutes later, at 16.30, the series «i Quaderni – Italia 2050 Centro di ricerca del Museo MA*GA», published by Nomos Edizioni, will be presented. This part of the schedule includes the two volumes devoted to the exhibitions «Le strade terminano prima di cominciare. Vincenzo Agnetti e le tracce fotografiche» and «Qui e altrove. Gli ambienti di Paolo Scheggi 1964–1971».
At 17.15, Michele Lombardelli’s performance «NEG», created in collaboration with the Archivio Vincenzo Agnetti, will be presented. At 17.45, the program will return to publishing with the presentation of the catalogue «ARTE VIVA. Processi performativi e partecipativi come pratica. XXVIII Premio Gallarate», together with Alessandro Castiglioni and Emma Zanella.
Closing the program at 18 will be Martina Rota’s «Until there’s no air», included in the MILANoLTRE festival. The schedule guides the audience from the opening video to the publishing presentation, from the performance to the closing event entrusted to Martina Rota.
Throughout the day, it will be possible to visit the Museo MA*GA free of charge and attend the scheduled events. The schedule for 10 ottobre thus combines a visit to the three exhibitions, the finissage and the meetings devoted to books, video, research and performance.
