The cross-border worker bonus estimator calculates the additional benefits available under Italian and Swiss law: family allowances (assegni familiari), child deductions from withholding tax, and Italian bonus figli under the Assegno Unico e Universale (AUU) programme introduced in 2022.
For frontalieri, bonus eligibility depends on the country of residence and the type of benefit: Swiss family allowances are paid by the Swiss employer regardless of Italian residence, while Italian AUU is means-tested using ISEE and requires a separate INPS application.
In Canton Ticino, Swiss family allowances amount to CHF 200 per child per month (up to age 16) and CHF 250 for children in education (up to age 25). These allowances are not subject to withholding tax and are paid on top of net salary, representing a significant supplement for families with multiple children.
The 13th month salary (tredicesima) is mandatory in Switzerland for sectors covered by a collective labour agreement (CCL/GAV). In Ticino, most industries — manufacturing, construction, retail, hospitality — include the 13th month. Some employers also offer discretionary bonuses or performance-linked gratifiche, subject to the same social deductions as regular salary.
The estimator shows the combined monthly and annual value of all applicable bonuses and deductions, helping families optimise their fiscal position across both countries. By integrating Swiss allowances, Italian AUU, child-related tax deductions, and the 13th month, the tool provides a comprehensive view of total family income for cross-border households.
