The Cantonal Laboratory is responsible for monitoring compliance with legislation on food, chemicals, tobacco products and solariums in the Canton of Zurich. We test food and everyday items in our laboratory and inspect companies. To fulfill this important public service task, we have a modernly equipped and accredited analytical laboratory (ISO 17025). The training During the training to become a laboratory assistant EFZ in the field of chemistry, you will learn all the basic techniques of the laboratory technician profession and how to handle chemicals safely. To do this and to deepen what you have learned, you will spend the first year of training mainly in the in-house teaching laboratory. In the 2nd and 3rd year of your apprenticeship, you will learn in our departments how to analyze food and everyday items for their ingredients and additives, as well as for residues and impurities. You will learn a variety of analysis techniques from simple hand measurements to state-of-the-art devices for detecting trace amounts. You certainly won't lack variety. The requirement You attend secondary school A, enjoy mathematics, nature and technology and get good grades in these subjects. Recording the results and the work performed is very important.
