The Sociological Institute of the University of Zurich looks back on 60 years of active teaching and research. It is one of the leading, empirically oriented institutes in Switzerland and Europe. The basic understanding is based on theory-driven empirical social research with a strong focus on quantitative methods. To strengthen the professor team, we are looking for a guest professor for the Hebstsemester 2027 (HS27 from 1.8.2027 to 31.1.2028) and for the spring semester 2028 (FS28 from 1.2. to 31.7.2028). In teaching, they should cover core areas of macrosociology, e.g. in the field of research into social change, social structure analysis, demography or at the interface of economy, organizations and society. Their research is excellent and internationally visible. They are devoted to macrosociology, but adjacent research areas are also possible. Her research is based on quantitative empirical methods. In addition to teaching and research, the stay at the Sociological Institute serves to network and establish cooperation lines. Guest professorships are only possible for UZH-external persons. It is assumed that the visiting professor:women are present on site. We offer an inspiring academic environment and excellent employment conditions.

Tasks

• Provision of two courses at Bachelor's and Master's level (a total of 4 hours per semester): of which one will be an undergraduate, non-specialised course in economic sociology. As an elective module, the second course will preferably be used by you creatively as a lecture in the core areas of macrosociology. The language of instruction is German.
• You will contribute your experience to the professorship team and especially advise young scientists in fields related to macrosciology.
• Furthermore, it is possible to advance your personal research focus.

Profile

• You have a dissertation and habilitation or habilitation equivalent achievement in social sciences, preferably in sociology.
• They have several years of teaching experience in the field of basic sociological education and are proven in theory-driven empirical sociology.
• You have very good knowledge of German and English, you can hold courses in both languages. Teaching is fun for you.
• They also bring their own initiative and independence and are an extremely cooperative, integrity personality.
