Canton of Zurich Directorate of Economic Affairs Office for Economic Affairs Specialist lawyer/in area of employment permits 60 - 70% In the interest of companies and employees, the Office for Economic Affairs (AWI) is helping to strengthen Zurich as a location. The AWI bundles economic competences in the areas of location promotion, work permits, employment relations, labour inspectorate and economics. At cantonal level, the area of work permits ensures the implementation of the legal provisions concerning the admission of foreigners to work. As of 01.10.2026 or by agreement, we count on your support as a specialist lawyer / work permit. Their tasks:

• Processing of complex requests and requests
• Participation in quality assurance and development in the field of work permits
• Co-development of enforcement practice as well as the orientation and further development of work permits as a member of the management team
• Responsibility for appeal proceedings concerning work permits and independent handling of relevant cases
• Networking and cooperation with other offices, in particular the Cantonal Migration Office and the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM)
• Advising and supporting the area (especially the area management) in political affairs and legal clarifications
• Process responsibility for documentation and archiving your profile:
• Completed legal studies
• At least three years of qualified professional experience as a lawyer – ideally in public administration or in an administrative environment (advantageous lawyer patent)
• Adaptness and security in the structured formulation of complex opinions and decisions as well as interest in economic and procedural issues
• Very good English skills at level C1
