The topics at the Chair of Commercial and Commercial Law of Prof. Dr. iur. Peter Georg Picht and the research center Center for Intellectual Property & Competition Law (CIPCO) are primarily intellectual property law on the one hand, and competition law on the other, each with a view to national law, EU law and other legal systems. One focus is on legal issues related to pioneering technologies (e.g. AI, life sciences). In addition to legal research and teaching, policy engagement occurs, such as advising authorities and government agencies. As part of the strategic orientation of research at the University of Zurich, the University's priority research program "Human Reproduction Reloaded" | H2R examines the rapidly developing medical technologies in the field of human reproduction and their sociological, social, ethical and legal implications over eight years. In particular, this interdisciplinary research priority programme aims to understand the societal impact and legal challenges of these technologies and to provide policy recommendations. It also explores the goals, limitations and ethical aspects of assisted reproductive techniques (ART). CIPCO and Prof. Picht contribute the intellectual property law dimension to program research, including with a focus on CRISPR/Cas. Tasks

Specifically, your work includes cooperation in research, publication and consulting projects, especially in the field of intellectual property and competition law, as well as support in teaching and administrative chair work. In addition to working at the chair, an active participation of URPP (H2R) is absolutely necessary, so that a genuine interest in its topics should be given.

Profile

You are a highly motivated personality with far above-average academic achievements, interest in and certain prior knowledge of business law, in particular intellectual property and competition law as well as neighboring areas of law. Excellent command of the German language is mandatory, the best possible knowledge of English is desired, knowledge in French or Italian is welcome. Especially important are teamwork, flexibility and independent work. Persons who have already completed their master’s degree or will complete in the first half of 2027 are addressed. The writing of a doctoral thesis in the field of intellectual property and competition law and in connection with the topic of the URPP (H2R) comes into consideration.
