# Director / Director of Basic Training

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Italian Switzerland (SUPSI) is offering the position of

Director / Director of Basic Training (FB)

, member of the SUPSI Management, full time (100%) and permanent, starting from 1 September 2026. The main place of work is at the SUPSI General Directorate in Manno. SUPSI operates within its mandates of basic training, continuing education, applied research, service provision and knowledge transfer in multiple disciplinary fields. With almost 6,700 students active in 30 Bachelor degree courses and 21 Master degree courses, the FB represents a central mandate of the institution and one of the pillars of its positioning in the Swiss university system.

Scope and purpose of the position

The Director / FB Director is responsible for the strategic development and quality of SUPSI's Bachelor and Master training offer, ensuring institutional coherence, teaching innovation and a cutting-edge training experience for students. In the context of a matrix organisation, it operates in close collaboration with the Departments, affiliated Schools, other institutional mandates, and administrative services, helping to ensure coherence and strategic alignment between the different units involved in the FB mandate.

Main responsibilities

The Director / FB Director

• as a member of the Management, actively contributes to the overall strategic orientations of SUPSI by promoting its development, identity and reputation;
• develops and strengthens the Bachelor and Master training offer by supporting the Departments and affiliated Schools, considering the current trends in university teaching at a national and international level;
• stimulates pedagogical innovation, enhancing existing skills and promoting new approaches to teaching and learning;
• leads the Teaching and Teacher Training Service and the administrative support services for students;
• ensures the correct application of the FB Quality Assurance System (QMS) processes;
• stimulates student participation in academic life;
• represents SUPSI in the offices of the national university network (swissuniversities) in the field of university teaching.

Profile required

The ideal candidate

• has a university degree at master level; the research doctorate is a preferential qualification;
• has significant experience in teaching and academic management at tertiary level, in Switzerland and/or abroad;
• has an in-depth knowledge of the Swiss university system, with particular attention to the Universities of Applied Sciences and/or Higher Educational Schools;
• demonstrates authority, relational and leadership skills in multidisciplinary, complex and distributed responsibilities contexts;
• has a consolidated personal reputation and in-depth knowledge of the Ticino area and the relevant political-institutional context;
• his mother tongue is Italian and he has an excellent command of French and German; good knowledge of English.
