The Vadiana Cantonal Library collects, develops and provides a wide range of printed and electronic media and information for the general, educational, vocational, cultural and scientific education of the population. Centrally located in the cantonal capital, it runs the library Hauptpost, St. Gallen City Library, which is aimed at a wide audience and is to be replaced by a new building in a few years. At their headquarters in the Museumsquartier are the special departments with the St.Gallenian publications (Sangallensia), historical holdings and Rara. The Cantonal Library also promotes and supports other libraries in the Canton of St.Gallen and manages the St.Gallen Library Network and the St.Gallen-Appenzell Library Network with a total of around 75 libraries.
