With around 450 employees, the Psychiatric Services (PD) are responsible for extended primary mental health care throughout the canton. In addition to the emergency and crisis centres, a comprehensive range of information, therapy and counselling services is available from the clinics for psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics (KPPP) and child and adolescent psychiatry (KJP). The treatment is tailored to the individual needs of the patients and takes place on an outpatient, day-to-day clinical or inpatient basis. The PD also covers forensic psychiatry in the canton and cooperates in teaching and research with the universities of Bern and Basel.
