The State Chancellery is the staff office of the Government Council and supports it in the performance of its government and leadership tasks. It ensures the coordination of government business and provides a wide range of services for the Government Council, the Cantonal Council and the cantonal administration. The Department of Law and Justice performs a central cross-cutting function for the quality and coherence of cantonal legislation and legal application. For the management of this department, we are looking for a head of law and justice, 80-100%, as of 01.02.2027 or by agreement at the Solothurn location.

Your responsibility

• As head of the department, you lead them in terms of personnel, expertise and organization and ensure effective task fulfillment.
• In the areas of law assigned to the department, you are responsible for and handle legislative transactions. In the other legislative projects of the departments, you take over the legislative quality assurance and coordination, examine the projects and advise the departments on legislative issues.
• For fundamental and inter-departmental legal issues, you take over the coordination; you also advise the Government Council, the State Clerk and the departments.
• Demanding transactions and procedures in the areas of justice, state liability, complaints and pardons are just as much a part of your responsibilities as the representation of the canton in courts and authorities.
• Her responsibilities also include the law and notarial system, the legal internship system, the basic legal training and the right of submission as well as the representation of the canton in specialist bodies.

Your profile

• Prerequisites for this function are a completed university degree in law and a lawyer's patent from a Swiss canton.
• They have several years of legal professional experience, preferably in public administration. You also have experience in the field of justice, as well as in-depth knowledge and practical experience in legislation and legislation.
• They have leadership experience or proven leadership skills as well as strong legal judgement and high decision-making ability.
• Analytical and conceptual strength, very good editorial skills and strong communication and consulting skills distinguish you.
• An independent and solution-oriented working method, high integrity and very good knowledge of German round off your profile
• Knowledge of French and English is an advantage.
