With around 450 employees, the Psychiatric Services (PD) are responsible for extended primary mental health care throughout the canton. In addition to the emergency and crisis centres, a comprehensive range of information, therapy and counselling is available from the clinics for psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics and from child and adolescent psychiatry. The treatment is tailored to the individual needs of the patients and takes place on an outpatient, day-to-day clinical or inpatient basis. Psychiatric services also cover forensic psychiatry in the canton. The Psychiatric Services are teaching and research hospital of the University of Basel.
