The adventure is presented as colourful, dynamic, educational and filled with pure fantasy. On stage there are Tullia Dalle Carbonare and Simone Babetto. The direction is signed by Sergio Manfio and Laura Fintina, while the text is by Sergio Manfio. These are the artistic elements indicated for the show included in the festival program.

A story to talk about water

The representation reinterprets Andersen's famous fairy tale and brings it towards a theme linked to everyday life: saving water and its conscious use. The theme is addressed in a delicate and engaging way, maintaining the link with the fantastic register of the narrative. The fairy tale thus becomes the starting point for talking about the environment through theatre.

The source indicates that children are a particularly attentive and receptive audience towards environmental issues. For this reason, narration is also an opportunity to transmit a strong and current educational message with immediate and evocative language. Theatrical language is used to combine imagination and environmental sensitivity, without giving up the educational dimension of the show.

The choice is brought back to the municipal administration of Brusimpiano. Thanks are addressed to the entire Administration and, in particular, to the Mayor Fabio Zucconelli and to the Councilor for Culture Bruno Ussia. The decision to bring «The queen of water» to Brusimpiano is presented as an investment, through art, in the education and sensitivity of the new generations.

Operational details

A festival spanning the Insubric area

Brusimpiano is part of Terra e Laghi's circuit, a traveling theater festival active in the Insubric area. The project connects municipalities in Lombardy, Piedmont, the Canton of Ticino and the Alpine Macroregion, also including the area's smallest villages in its itinerary.

From ten municipalities to an international network

Launched with ten municipalities in Insubria, the festival has become an international network that now involves more than one hundred public and private entities. Its development rests on coordination among local administrations, institutions and cultural associations, through which theater spreads throughout the area and reaches even the smallest villages.

Artistic director Silvia Priori linked the festival's twenty years to encounters, shared experiences, emotions and the relationship between art and the territory.

Silvia Priori described the twentieth anniversary as a tribute to twenty years of history, encounters, sharing and strong emotions, together with the art, theater and territory that welcome them.

Priori described an area that may lie on the margins, on the border, often considered a dormitory area or forgotten, and explained that Terra e Laghi has transformed geography into dramaturgy. In this reading, boundaries are not barriers but possibilities, distances become encounters, the outskirts harbor the most urgent need for community, and the spark of possibility is kindled in forgotten places.

Francesca Caruso highlighted the work carried out over twenty years to connect municipalities, institutional networks and associations in Lombardy, Switzerland and other European territories. In her view, the festival is among the most extensive and significant in the Alpine area and represents a source of pride and a way to promote our land. For Silvia Priori, culture is a necessity, not a luxury or an ornament, and should be taught in schools on an equal footing with mathematics.

Key points

The calendar and support

The remainder of the program is linked to the festival’s twentieth edition, entitled “Geographies of the Possible” and scheduled from May to November. The source describes an edition spread over seven months, with 44 municipalities involved and 85 performances. Over the course of its editions, attendance has come close to 300 thousand.

An educational thread within the calendar

The touring project brings together the timeless appeal of the Nordic fairy tale and attention to today’s environmental challenges. In “The Water Queen,” the stage becomes a place of discovery and awareness. Evocative images and an essential yet incisive narrative transform entertainment into an educational opportunity, capable of bringing younger audiences closer to protecting water and natural resources.

The programming described by the source therefore unfolds among dates, municipalities and performances distributed throughout the area. The 44 municipalities involved and the 85 events indicated for the seven months show the breadth of the twentieth edition, while the attendance figure conveys the scale reached by the festival over the course of its editions.

The festival benefits from the support of the Ministry of Culture, Regione Lombardia, Regio Insubrica, Fondazione Cariplo and Fondazione Comunitaria del Varesotto, as well as the 39 municipalities of Insubria and another 5 municipal administrations of the Alpine Macroregion.

Among the organizations worth highlighting is Teatro Blu: since 2021, it has been one of the few Lombard companies to which the Ministry has granted the status of Theater Production Company in the field of research and innovation. For the local stop, the event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21 at 10:00 in the SOMS Hall in Brusimpiano, where children will be presented with the fairy tale, the images and the message about water conservation.
