Geometric frustration in quantum systems leads to a tight competition between qualitatively new collective spin states, such as topological structures, quantum spin liquids, multipolar ordered phases and spin-supersolids, to name only a few.
Each state is characterized by its own set of elementary excitations that often have no analogue in semi-classical physics.
