- Ensure operational service (around the clock, 7 days a week) in the Aeronautical Meteorological Forecaster (AMF) and Public Weather Service Forecaster (PWS-F) functions
- Ensure weather monitoring, issuance of warnings, creation of weather products and recommendations, and creation and dissemination of documents for specific users in accordance with the work plan and instructions
- Maintain communication with our customers and partner organisations and advise and support them in their decision-making
- Take over the function as service manager and in this function bear the responsibility for the smooth running of the entire production in the forecast center
- Writing blog articles and posts for social media and answering media inquiries
- Assuming further tasks, for example in connection with the introduction and operation of new services, forms of communication (including social networks), climate services and forecasting tools, in close cooperation with other departments of MeteoSwiss
- University degree (Master) with in-depth knowledge in meteorology (for more details see the requirements on the website of MeteoSwiss, "Basic Instruction Package for Meteorologists" (BIP-M) according to WMO Manual No.
1083)
- Ability to work in operational service with irregular working hours (night and weekend service) and as a team
- Ability to make informed decisions quickly, even in stressful situations
- Excellent French skills, good active German skills and passive Italian skills; language practices in the international context, aviation and WMO regulations also require good communication and writing skills in English
- Very good skills and interest in communication activities for different target groups through different channels (media, blogs, social networks, briefings, etc.)
- Additional qualifications beneficial: knowledge of meteorology-oriented programming languages (e.g.
Python), experience in scientific or journalistic communication, experience in aviation
