The Schools Legal Service will be created in the Department Secretariat on 1 April 2027. It is created by the division of the previous legal service into a general legal service and the legal service schools. While the General Legal Service is responsible for general legal issues and sports, the Legal Service Schools deals with all legal concerns surrounding the municipal schools. In addition to the approximately 100 standard schools of the elementary school, these also include four special schools, the technical school Viventa and the music school Conservatory Zurich.

The job starts at 1. March 2027 or by arrangement.

Tasks

You lead a well-established team of four highly experienced lawyers and are responsible for their professional, personnel and organizational leadership.

Your work with your team includes in particular

• Advising and supporting departmental management, service departments, school authorities and schools on legal issues relating to schools with a focus on public law, in particular in school law, personnel law, information and data protection law, procurement law, state liability law and administrative procedure law
• Conduct of appeal proceedings before the City Council, District Council, Education Directorate and Administrative Court (reassessment, appeal and appeal proceedings)
• Preparation of resolutions for city council and school authorities
• Governance of legislative projects

Profile

• Law degree (master level) and preferably attorney's patent
• Many years of qualified professional experience in public law
• Leadership experience, administrative experience and experience in the aforementioned areas of law are advantageous
• Very good linguistic expression and ability to assess complex legal issues in a practical and comprehensible way
• Very independent and efficient working method, high service orientation and resilience
• Function as a team player, negotiation and communication skills as well as an understanding of political issues and processes
