Canton of Zurich Prison and Reintegration Internship in the Social Service 80% Prison and Reintegration (JuWe) is responsible as part of the Directorate of Justice and Home Affairs of the Canton of Zurich for the execution of penalties and measures as well as the execution of various types of detention.
For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of people who have committed crimes, the prevention of recidivism and the detention and preparation of the departure of persons without a valid residence permit are of particular importance.
The Bachtel Prison Center (VZB) is one of the prison institutions of the Canton of Zurich (VEZ) – one of seven main departments of the JuWe – and is an institution specialized in the open execution of prison sentences and substitute prison sentences.

Application process
- Create and examine applications for material and relationship leave and ensure the leave process
- Administrative tasks such as general correspondence, files, leave applications with programme review, requests for conditional dismissals with recommendations and enforcement reports
- Interdisciplinary cooperation with law enforcement agencies and external bodies such as the Psychiatric Psychological Service (PPD), probation and enforcement authorities, courts, migration and social services
