The IT Service Group (ISGINF) acts as an internal IT service provider of the Department of Computer Science at ETH Zurich, which has established itself as one of the world's leading academic institutions in the field of computer science through excellent research and teaching. In order to strengthen our team, we are looking for a:n Linux System Engineer:in (80%-100%) immediately or by agreement.

Our nine-member team supervises the department’s own IT infrastructure, which is specifically tailored to the requirements of the professorships and research groups. Together with the researchers, we are continuously developing our systems and applications, relying on the latest technologies.

Job description

You take on a varied activity with a high level of personal responsibility and actively shape innovative solutions. Her tasks and competencies include the conception, implementation, implementation and support of systems and services based on Linux.

• Classic system administration: installation of computers, configuration management, error analysis and updates
• Development, maintenance and operation of IT services
• Programming tools, interfaces and web applications with the help of AI
• Operation of our Kubernetes clusters and provision of applications
• Collaboration with researchers on projects and IT problems
• Collaboration on our Ansible-based Linux infrastructure
• Regular use on the service desk

Your first concrete task will be to take over and rebuild our Icinga-based monitoring system.

Profile

• Completed training in computer science or in a related field
• In-depth knowledge of Linux system administration, scripting languages and programming
• Practical experience in the design and implementation of IT solutions
• Independent and structured working methods, resilience and a high level of initiative
• Teamwork and a communicative personality
• Readiness for continuous training
• Good knowledge of German and English for dealing with our customers
