focusTerra is the Earth & Science Discovery Center of ETH Zurich. It is embedded in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, which is considered a world leader in its field. As an earth and natural science museum, focus Terra serves as a bridge between science and the public. Our focus is on promoting the understanding, discovery and enjoyment of the Earth, Planet and other natural sciences with a focus on their societal relevance. We realize scientific exhibitions and activities for the public.

From December 2026, we are looking for an expert for science communication (online, print, exhibitions) focus Terra (60%) for an initial period of two years.

Job description

This exciting location lies at the interface between research mediation and communication of our work. Their main task is the communicative accompaniment of our exhibitions, programs and events. In addition, you develop and create content for exhibitions together with the team.

You are the contact person for partners with whom we work communicatively (e.g. ETH University Communication, Zürcher Museums Association, external graphic and illustration offices, printing companies). They create, control and edit brochures and advertising materials, write blog posts and maintain our websites (AEM system) and online exhibitions. You also design and maintain our communication channels (e.g. social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube as well as newsletters). You create mediation documents and advertising materials with various programs (e.g. Word, InDesign, PowerPoint, Illustrator, Canva).

Her tasks also include image processing and the creation of moving images, video editing, subtitling and the visualization of exhibitions. They create reports including statistical evaluation, evaluation and layout. As part of the loan of special exhibitions, you create floor plans and design layout proposals for the new exhibition location.

They support our dedicated team in all aspects of daily operations and work closely with researchers, workshops and service units at ETH Zurich. They look after visitors in exhibitions and events, during regular opening hours and on individual evenings and weekends. Furthermore, you support students in their training as museum guides and participate in the preparation of events. They represent focus Terra in committees and at conferences.

Profile

The basic prerequisite is your pleasure in preparing complex scientific content correctly, comprehensibly and in accordance with target groups. You have a Master’s in Earth or Environmental Sciences and extensive experience in graphics and communication. Excellent and stylish written and oral knowledge of German and excellent knowledge of English are a mandatory requirement for the exercise of the position.

They master various graphics, image and video editing programs and have experience with content management systems. Good three-dimensional imagination is an advantage.

Our team is small and faced with a variety of requirements and tasks. Therefore, it is important that you perform your tasks reliably. You have a very fast comprehension and know how to implement your tasks efficiently, structured and carefully, with a high standard of quality and consistency.

They are interested in new tasks and challenges and, if necessary, develop the necessary technical expertise. You are a flexible and practical personality with a high level of initiative.

Your communicative skills and social competence distinguish you and enable you to deal with visitors. They enjoy working independently and in a team, are creative, responsible and understand how to work efficiently even under stress. Your curiosity, your joy and your interest in public relations work contribute significantly to the success of the various tasks.
