The VSETH - Association of Students at ETH Zurich is the university policy representative of the approximately 25,000 students at ETH Zurich. At the same time, with his commissions and professional associations, he is ubiquitous in student life outside the lecture halls, organizes various events and offers a variety of services. To make this possible, around 2,000 volunteers regularly rely on the IT infrastructure of VSETH. This infrastructure covers many very specific needs, from the requirements of our 17 professional associations representing students in the departments of the ETH to the requirements of our commissions, such as the nightline operated by volunteers. The operation, further development and support of this infrastructure takes place within the IT-Service Group (ISG). The existing infrastructure is aging and is currently being replaced. Immediately or by agreement, we are looking for 1 student employee: DevOps and Platform Engineer.

Job description

• Expansion of the existing kubernetes-based applications and renewed migration of their to the new infrastructures
• Design of kubernetes-based versions of specific applications currently running on virtual machines
• Working with students currently developing applications on the Student Innovation Platform (SIP) to migrate their applications to the new Student Innovation Platform (SIP2)
• Infrastructure maintenance, i.e. ensuring the stability and reliability of ongoing applications, as well as backup and recovery processes
• Provision of clear documentation

Profile

• High degree of independence and flexibility
• Reliable work and communication
• Motivation to get involved in a complex, technical environment
• Good English skills in Word and Writing
• Basic knowledge of Linux and containerization
• Nice to have: Networking, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, knowledge in software engineering, especially frontend
