ETH Zurich is one of the world's leading technical science universities. Within the Vice-Presidency for Knowledge Transfer and Economic Relations, the Research Contract Group supports researchers in putting their projects on a secure legal footing with national and international partners.

In order to strengthen our team, we are looking for a solution-oriented personality as Legal Counsel.

In this position, you are the central point of contact for legal issues and contracts in the field of human research. They advise researchers and central offices of ETH Zurich and support projects in the scope of the Human Research Act (HFG). You will regularly work on projects with a technology-driven focus, in particular in connection with digital health solutions, data infrastructures or medical products. Her work includes the independent drafting, examination and negotiation of contracts with national and international partners as well as the legal support of complex project-related issues.

Job description

  • Preparation, examination and negotiation of contracts for human research projects with national and international partners (e.g. clinical studies, research collaborations, data and material transfer).
  • Advising and supporting researchers on legal and regulatory issues in the field of human research (especially according to the HFG).
  • Close cooperation with central interfaces, in particular the Legal Service and the Advisory Human Research Act group, to ensure coherent legal solutions.
  • Coordination with internal and external stakeholders, including researchers and hospitals.

  • Active participation in human research within the Research Contract Group.

Profile

We are looking for an integrative personality who quickly penetrates complex issues and enjoys working closely together in a diverse environment.

  • Education: You have a Swiss university degree in law.
  • Experience: You have in-depth experience in human research and knowledge of projects at the interface of science and application. Experience in the areas of medical devices, pharmaceuticals or software-based health solutions as well as in the legal or operational support of corresponding research projects in an academic or industrial environment is an advantage.
  • Competences: You have excellent analytical and conceptual skills, negotiating skills and assertiveness, as well as the ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics and deal flexibly with complex issues. A quick comprehension and a high degree of personal responsibility distinguish you as well as an efficient and exact working method.
  • Languages: You communicate and negotiate stylishly in German and English (word and writing). Knowledge of French is an advantage.
  • Mindset: You work efficiently, accurately and solution-oriented and have a strong team spirit and high social competence. They have the necessary sense in the third-party funding of a university, where scientists must be supported quickly and pragmatically.

By formulating clear and unambiguous contractual regulations, you lay the basis for the later practical implementation of the research results. They are able to independently organize a heterogeneous portfolio of deals and complete them on time. By working quickly, solution-oriented and prudently, you enable researchers to carry out their excellent projects.

If you are also interested in scientific, technical and economic contexts and would like to work in the exciting environment of cutting-edge research, you have ideal conditions.
