Asia-Orient Institute

The Asia-Orient Institute (AOI) is the largest institute for research and teaching on Asia and the Muslim world in Switzerland. Regionally, his priorities are the Middle East with North Africa and South and East Asia. The research at the AOI is interdisciplinary and based on the methods of the humanities, cultural and social sciences. The spectrum of research focuses ranges from the development and analysis of original language sources to the collection and evaluation of data from field research. The Department of Islamic Studies and Gender Studies covers research and teaching on the Muslim world in history and present with two chairs. The position to be filled is assigned to the Chair of Gender Studies and Islamic Studies (Prof. Dr. Bettina Dennerlein).
Tasks
It is a scientific qualification body. In addition to participation in the teaching (to the extent of 2 to max. 4 SWS) in the field of Islamic Studies/Middle East Studies independent research is expected. In addition, there is the partial assumption of general scientific and administrative tasks at the Islamic Studies Department, in particular study consultancy (Ba and Ma).
Profile
- Doctorate in Islamic Studies/Middle East Studies or a closely related discipline
- Excellent knowledge of the working language Arabic and preferably knowledge of another relevant language (e.g. Turkish or Persian)
- Teaching experience
- Willingness to teach in German
- Experience in study program development and/or study program organization is desired
- Interdisciplinary interest in research questions on the cultural and social history of the MENA region
- Interest in scientific further qualification
