Role overview

As a Shipping Officer in CERN's Shipping Unit, you will organise and coordinate the import and export transportation of goods worldwide by road, air, sea, and rail.

You will manage a wide range of shipments, including chemicals, radioactive materials, dual-use items, and other regulated goods, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant transport operations.

You will coordinate transport requests, prepare documentation and quotations, advise CERN users, and ensure compliance with international regulations, contributing to the smooth and reliable movement of goods across CERN's global supply chain. of CERN

Main responsibilities

  • Your responsibilities:
  • Review, correct, and validate transport requests, and organise import and export shipments by road, air, sea, and rail.
  • Ensure compliance with transport, customs, and dangerous goods regulations, and prepare and verify transport and customs documentation.
  • Coordinate shipments with carriers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders, track shipments, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Advise CERN users on transport and logistics solutions, prepare transport quotations, and recommend the most suitable shipping options.
  • Verify and approve transport invoices, and resolve transport issues, claims, and delivery disputes.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to users' transport-related enquiries.
  • Support continuous improvement of shipping processes and logistics tools.

Key requirements

  • Some experience in organising international transport operations, including customer service and coordination with various partners across the transport industry.

  • Some experience in writing clear and structured procedures and work instructions. Skills:

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State .
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Commercial Business Administration [...] (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma .
