Mission The Laboratory of Photonics and Quantum Measurements (LPQM) at EPFL is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to develop next generation photonic integrated circuits based on novel ferro-electric materials. This project aims to establish, for the first time, ferro-electric crystal on insulator technology with material, exhibiting anomalous optical properties and demonstrate high-speed, tunable integrated photonic devices. The researcher will play a central role in developing bonding and fabrication processes for thin film crystals, designing and realizing low-loss photonic circuits, and demonstrating high-performance devices such as ultrafast tunablelasers. The work will combine materials science,nanofabrication, and photonic design, with strong potential for high-impact publications and future technology transfer. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the Crystal Growth Facility at EPFL, to grow the new crystals for this project and is housing high tech metrology tools. Main duties and responsibililties Cleanroom fabrication and process development (50–60%) • Develop bonding techniques to fabricate crystal-on-insulator thin films from bulk crystals • Perform wafer bonding, thinning, and polishing processes • Develop and optimize etching processes (e.g., argon ion etching) • Fabricate and characterize low-loss photonic integrated circuits using DUV stepper lithography and diamond-like carbond hard etching masks Device design and characterization (20–30%) • Design photonic devices including modulators and tunable laser cavities • Simulate device performance using tools such as COMSOL or Lumerical • Perform optical and electro-optical measurements (bandwidth, losses, tuning range) Project coordination and dissemination (10–20%) • Lead experimental planning and coordinate with collaborators and crystal growth facility • Prepare reports and publications in high-impact journals • Present results at international conferences We offer a un
