Work area Pediatric Oncology is a success story with survival rates of 87% at 10 years after diagnosis in Switzerland. This huge effort was achieved within only 50 years and by conventional treatment with surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and stem cell transplantation. But most parents and even the patients want to do more than conventional therapy to minimize acute and long-term toxicity and enhance their chances of survival. Evidence about integrative medicine in pediatric oncology is sparse – this collaborative project (SCREEN - Safety and effeCts of integRative medicinE on acute side Effects in pediatric oNcology) will enhance our knowledge in the field and contribute to evidence about the effect of integrative medicine in the field of supportive care of pediatric oncology.
This is a collaborative project between the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Switzerland and the University of Lucerne involving Swiss and international pediatric oncology centers.
