Role overview
The international SNSF-funded clinical study “ESBo‐SCI” investigates the influence of abdominal neuromuscular electrostimulation (NMES) on gut management in people with chronic paralysis and neurogenic bowel dysfunction.
The aim is to clarify whether the positive effects of stimulation are primarily based on motor contractions or on afferent (sensory) neuromodulation in order to establish an evidence-based treatment protocol.
The position is limited to 4 years.

- Participant management: You independently take over the recruitment, screening and close support (both on site in Nottwil and online) of the study participants over the entire duration of the study.

Application process
- Intervention instructions: You instruct the participants professionally in the application of the electrostimulation device.
- Visits & data collection: You carry out the structured study visits, accompany the participants when filling out the questionnaires and the intestinal management diary on the tablet.
- International cooperation: You are actively involved in the interdisciplinary study team and coordinate with our partners in Canada and Norway as part of this multinational project.
- Data analysis & publication: You manage the study database (SecuTrial®), analyze the collected data and prepare the results for scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. Requirements
- Academic qualification: You have completed a PhD degree in movement science, neuroscience, nursing science, medicine or a related life science discipline.
Company and context
- Research experience: You will bring proven experience in the practical planning, organization and conduct of clinical interventional studies.
- Publication strength: You already have experience in writing and preparing scientific manuscripts.
- Language competence: You have knowledge of German at the mother tongue level for the daily, empathetic treatment of our patients as well as excellent knowledge of English (C1 in word and writing) for the scientific exchange and writing of publications.
- Technical & Methodological Skills: You are well versed in dealing with study databases (e.g.
- SecuTrial® or comparable systems) and have knowledge of statistical data analysis.
