- Establish a strong research profile in metal additive manufacturing within the laboratory's broader activities (including materials development, powder engineering, process development and monitoring, process modelling and simulation, and materials characterization)
- PhD in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field
- Demonstrated expertise in the science and technology of metals, and particularly in metal additive manufacturing (LPBF, DED, BJ etc.)
Main responsibilities
- Your responsibilities
- Establish a strong research profile in metal additive manufacturing within the laboratory's broader activities (including materials development, powder engineering, process development and monitoring, process modelling and simulation, and materials characterization)
- Acquire and manage competitive research funding from national and international funding agencies and industrial partners
- Develop and maintain strong collaborations with academic and industrial partners in Switzerland and internationally
- Lead research projects and supervise PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and MSc students
- Publish high-quality research in leading international journals and present results at major scientific conferences
- Contribute actively to the strategic development and long-term growth of the laboratory
- Promote technology transfer and strengthen collaboration with industry
Key requirements
- PhD in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field
- Demonstrated expertise in the science and technology of metals, and particularly in metal additive manufacturing (LPBF, DED, BJ etc.)
- Excellent publication record relative to career stage
- Strong potential to acquire competitive research funding and develop an independent research profile

- The successful candidate will establish an innovative research agenda and lead an internationally recognized research group.
- Ability to work across disciplines and bridge fundamental research, technology development, and industrial applications
- Experience in research project management and supervision of junior researchers
- Excellent communication, networking, and leadership skills
