Role overview

The Assistant Departmental Safety Officer (ADSO) contributes to the implementation of the department's safety policy.

You will support the Departmental Safety Officer in identifying, preventing, and monitoring risks related to activities, infrastructure, and equipment, while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and procedures.

Main responsibilities

  • Your responsibilities: Within the EN Department Safety team, your responsibilities will include:
  • Analysing accidents and hazardous situations, and contributing to the definition of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Supporting the Departmental Safety Officer (DSO) in implementing the department's safety actions.
  • Participating in the organisation of planned evacuations and in feedback/lessons-learned activities following these exercises.
  • Drafting and communicating prevention and safety awareness messages.
  • Taking part in safety inspections and on-site visits to verify compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Contributing to the monitoring of action plans and the promotion of a strong safety culture.

Key requirements

  • Experience participating in the analysis of incidents and hazardous situations as part of a safety team.
  • Experience supporting safety prevention initiatives and awareness activities.
  • Experience contributing to the preparation, coordination, and organisation of planned evacuation procedures. Skills:
  • Knowledge of the main occupational health and safety risks.
  • Good knowledge of office software tools (Word, Excel).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proactive mindset, autonomy, and adaptability.
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French. Eligibility criteria:
  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State .

Application process

  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree .
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
  • Job closing date: 05.07.2026 at 23:59 CEST.
  • Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
  • Working hours: 40 hours per week Job flexibility: Fully Onsite Target start date: 01-September-2026 This position involves:
