We are looking for a motivated Associate Scientist / Senior Laboratory Specialist who will join our Pilot Plant Bern team. In this role, you take on a central, practice-oriented function in the preparation, implementation and follow-up of pilot plant activities. The focus is on the independent operation, cleaning and support of process plants as well as the reliable documentation and support of development, transfer and lifecycle management activities. Pilot Plant Bern operates in an environment classified as cleanroom class D; the activities are non-GxP, but the relevant cleanroom, safety and documentation requirements must be consistently met.

MAIN TASKS

• Independent implementation of routine and non-routine plant and laboratory work in a pilot plant environment classified as cleanroom class D.
• Perform manual operations such as column connection, buffer flushing, setup and disassembly of process setups, and minor method adjustments and/or programming of process equipment, e.g. chromatography or ultra-diafiltration equipment, as specified.
• Monitoring the process progression and timely intervention in the event of deviations or unexpected process behavior.
• Create, review and control batch documentation, protocols, work instructions and SOPs using good documentation practice, including support for protocol improvements and scientific documentation.
• Organization and processing of calibrations, maintenance and technical reports as well as their documentation and tracking in SAP.
• Preparation of buffer solutions, packing of chromatography columns and carrying out simple analytical measurements.
• Flexible design and needs-based adaptation of process plants and process setups in close coordination with supervisors and project managers.
• Support for technology transfer, development and lifecycle management activities through reliable practical implementation and structured documentation.
• Support and training of less experienced employees within defined tasks.
• Readiness for time flexibility, including temporary shift models during intensive campaigns or project phases.

Qualifications

• Completed laboratory training, bachelor's degree or comparable training in a relevant scientific, technical, pharmaceutical, chemical or food technology field.
• Alternatively, relevant practical experience in a chemical, pharmaceutical, biotech, food or technical production environment.
• Strong hands-on focus and enjoyment of practical work with process plants, equipment and technical systems.
• Experience or interest in method adaptations, recipe/method programming and technical parameterization of process plants, in particular chromatography and ultra-diafiltration plants, is advantageous.
• Experience in cleanroom environments, in particular cleanroom class D, is advantageous.
• Experience with cleaning, plant preparation, documentation and SAP-supported maintenance or notification processes is an advantage.
• Understanding good documentation practice as well as careful, comprehensible and structured working methods.
• High self-motivation, sense of responsibility and solution-oriented work.
• Teamwork and ability to perform tasks independently and reliably.
• Adaptability, organisational capacity and readiness to flexibly support changing project and campaign requirements.
