Role overview
Main tasks and responsibilities Within EPFL Sustainability, attached to the Vice-Presidency for Research and Strategic Initiatives, your mission will be to work with laboratories, centers and platforms to estimate and reduce their environmental footprint without impacting the quality of research.
You will work in interface with different Vice-Presidencies and Faculties of EPFL, you will be required to: Green Labs Strategy
- Delegated to the head of department, support, monitor and guarantee the planning and implementation of the Green Labs component of the Climate and Sustainability Strategy
- Support laboratories, centers and platforms in reducing their environmental impact
- Participate in the definition of reduction objectives targeted by laboratory typology
- Define and propose a financing plan to support laboratories and platforms in the deployment of reduction measures
- Participate in national and international working groups Mission Support for laboratories
- Carry out carbon assessments of research activities for laboratories, centers and platforms
- Analyze energy and resource consumption
- Raise awareness among research teams
- Deploy certifications such as LEAF, Sparhub or My Green Lab
- Advise on good practices in particular in terms of energy, purchasing, travel, waste including plastic, etc.
- Develop roadmaps and action plans Communication & commitment
- Support communication in connection with the deployment of EPFL's research activity quantification tool, the CO2 Calculator
- Participate and/or organize, as a delegation from the head of department, coordination sessions of the Green Labs team
- Organize workshops and events
- Create educational materials
- Maintain and develop the website
- Promote laboratory initiatives
- Develop a sustainable research culture Profile Experience required
- University training at master's or doctoral level, or HES in engineering, environmental sciences, data analysis, digital sciences or equivalent
- Experience in methods of monitoring and accounting for greenhouse gas emissions of at least 5 years
- Experience in management of transversal projects of at least 5 years Required skills
- Mastery of the principles of accounting for carbon emissions (e.g.
GHG Protocol)
- Knowledge of methods, tools and standards for quantifying environmental footprints such as life cycle analysis
- Strong interest in sustainability and reducing the environmental footprint
- Experience with LCA software such as SimaPro a plus
- Proven knowledge of the academic world
- Language skills: French, English imperative
- Ability to analyze and synthesize, writing skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally
- Demonstrate autonomy, pro-activity and being proactive
