IMPORTANT: Be sure to check out the details of the recruitment process under “Good to know”!

Who you are

As a learner at IKEA Switzerland, you are not alone – you are part of a large learner community. Together you will experience how exciting and varied it is to work in an international company, to take on responsibility and to develop yourself further. Because during your apprenticeship, we show you step by step everything you need to be safe in your professional life after your apprenticeship and to achieve your own goals.

In the area of polydesign 3D (our name is the “Home Furnishing & Retail Design” department), you are creative in the middle of it: you design our exhibitions, sales areas and living examples in such a way that they inspire people and give them ideas for their home. You help make a furniture store a world where you like to stay, discover new things and come back.

You don't have to be able to do everything yet! It is important that you are curious, enjoy learning and feel like participating in IKEA.

In order to suit us well, you ideally bring the following

  • You are very interested in design and furnishings – for example, you like to set up your room, collect decorative ideas on social media or try out creative projects yourself.
  • You have a good eye for shapes, colors and proportions and find it exciting to design spaces that look beautiful and are practical at the same time.
  • You are creative but also pragmatic: you have ideas, but you can also deal with time pressure or limited space and look for solutions that are really feasible.
  • You like to move, get involved and feel comfortable in an environment where things can happen quickly.
  • You like to work in a team, for example in group work at school or in an association, but you can also do tasks independently.
  • You are safe with a computer or tablet and feel like working with design or planning programs (e.g. AutoCAD or similar tools) – first experiences are great, but not a must.
  • You speak German very well and already understand a little English.

You are responsible for

  • You will learn how to design sales areas and exhibitions together with your team – in such a way that our customers get real living ideas for their home and like to stay in the furniture store.
  • With our IKEA product range, you’ll practice representing different styles and living situations – from smaller budgets to more elaborate solutions that meet different life stages and needs.
  • You will develop new, creative and functional furnishing solutions that fit the current wishes of our customers – for small rooms, families, home office or your first own apartment.
  • You work with different departments – for example sales and logistics – so that your ideas not only look good, but are also practical and the right products are in the right place at the right time.
  • You learn to work carefully and safely: you keep order, adhere to safety rules and help protect people, products and work equipment.
